Made rich by receiving:
I’m reflecting on the people who make my life rich. Some are local and long-term friends. Others, I’ve never met. One lives with me.
The people who impact us profoundly, believe in us deeply. They encourage more than critique. They see our talent and strengths, even when we don’t. They call us to live up to our potential.
Made rich by giving:
The second form of rich living is giving what we are receiving. People who pour into us, enable us to enrich others.
Everything you will become, began with others.
Receiving and giving:
Last night, I sat on the couch, and, for a moment, held my granddaughter’s hand. This morning, I sat by my wife and held her hand. I did it for me, as much as for them.
Giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin.
The illusion of self-sufficiency blocks giving. It’s impossible to give, if we haven’t received.
We give and serve out of frailty.
The less you receive, the less you can give. Perhaps those who can’t give, need to learn how to receive?
Expanded capacity:
Pouring-out creates space to receive, but receiving without giving makes us poor.
Receiving and giving make us rich.

First of all Merry Christmas to you and your family.
May I learn from you exactly how do we understand ” reflection” . And reflection only and only can happen when two practically wisdom oriented guys are sharing experiences not information with each other. Then reflection with enlightenment can takes place otherwise argument is very much possible rather discussion.
2. Giving and receiving are part of transactional leadership and leads to self pretentious behavior with lesser involvement of other interest. In such a situation receiving end always remain in a benefit. Transactions mean transaction. Such experiences never leads to reflections. Then how do we respond to ourselves because it’s question of self evolvement or evolution not no more pretentious ideology or question of attention more then intention.
3. Rich beggars can’t be a big donor. It’s a bitter experience of riches bankruptcy of thoughts and assertive behaviour.
4. Reflections are truly interest of people when they putting interest of others first. If it is so then reflection takes place or argument leads to discussion and it’s possible between two ego less selfless guys.

There is a side to giving that includes obligation. It may be difficult to escape that obligation. One possible escape is giving out of our own receiving. This idea allows for humility.

Your post mentions receiving encouragement from others. I believe encouragement is one of the most prized gifts to receive or to give. To literally “give courage” to someone is a very powerful and fulfilling gift.
I appreciate your posts and I’m sure they speak to many more than you ever hear from.
“Everything you will become began with others”, that hits home tonight as I hold the hand of the one I love and reflect on the people who have helped me and continue to help me become what I was meant to be. And that includes you. Thank you Dan for the gift you give all of us every day.

Dan, Great as always! To give unconditionally is a wonderful feeling of enrichment of our souls and others. I expect no returns, but it’s nice when people serve each other as a joint effort, as you mentioned holdings hands, something so simple, yet grabs our souls and hearts! Merry Christmas my mentor!
Dan, I really like what you say here: Perhaps those who can’t give, need to learn how to receive?” That is so true. When I was in private practice as a psychotherapist, one thing I saw was some clients who were told by others they focused too much on themselves and that they needed to think more of others and to be more giving to others. However, as you point out (after the quote above) “It’s impossible to give, if we haven’t received.”
I find most people struggle, not with wanting to give, but in being able to receive. And those that aren’t known for being thoughtful and giving are the ones who most need to receive. By “receive” I don’t mean just having others give to them, but to be able to accept and receive what others give, whether that be a compliment or a helping hand–to be able to receive without feeling “less than” or ashamed of receiving.
