Don Henley on the Death of Glenn Frey
Stay open. You’re never know who might make a difference in your life.
Don Henley, reflecting on the death of Glenn Frey, said, “I’m not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet.”
“The people who become superstars are simply those who receive the most help.” Ken Kragan
7 ways to expand your personal team:
- Get over yourself. Stay open to receiving help. You don’t need to do it alone.
- Join someone else’s team. Ego isolates; humility connects. You might be thinking, who can join my team. Try the opposite.
- Hang with talent. Go where they are.
- Watch for bright eyes. See who lights up when you light up.
- Hire great people. Don’t fill positions.
- Include weirdos. Cookie-cutter-people, seldom change the world.
- Connect with your opposite. If you’re a visionary, you need a doer. If you’re good with the soft stuff, find someone who’s good with the hard stuff.
Bonus: Hire a coach or find a mentor.

What prevents leaders from expanding their personal team?
How might leaders expand their personal team?
Thanks Dan. A good word for me as I continue to live into my “one word” for the year which is “receive.
Thanks Ken. Love your word. It sounds like it would expand lots of us. Best for the journey.
Terrific post, Dan — love #6 — weirdos teach us to eat things we otherwise would never consider!!
Thanks Mark. Ooooo! That feels a little gross. I guess you made your point. 🙂
I am one of the people affected by the work of Don Henley and Glenn Frey! Great team, great songs that jammed in my vehicle on road trips to and from college. I guess I should thank my parents, too, for playing the Eagles when I was kid … otherwise, I may have missed out on their feel-good music!
Love your list of powerful teams. The idea that many success stories aren’t accomplished by individuals opens the door to the thought – “who might be a good partner to help me reach my goals.?”
Nice post! Happy Tuesday! 🙂
Thanks Dianna. Yes, the Eagles are part of my world too. Love their music.

9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
There’s a hole in the world today as the United States has lost a national treasure . God speed to heaven Glenn and remember The EAGLES soar alone.
Thanks Brian!
I love your blog and thoughts on Don Henley and Glen Frey. I am unsure however how one can leave a team off the list of powerful teams… a team that changed the world as I have known it since 1964…Lennon and McCartney! Love reading this every day! Thanks!
Thanks Phil. What a great add!
You left out two stellar teams…Lennon/McCartney (The Beatles) Jagger/Richards (Stones)
Thanks Rose!
#2 is spot on, Dan. Once we use the words “my” and “team” together, what we believe is a team really isn’t.
Thanks GaGirrl. This one really kicks me in the pants. I want people to join me. Thinking about joining another, is a real challenge.
The greatest key in expanding ones team is to “recognize you have choices “, often times we may miss the boat, not realizing what just occurred, the someone you did not ask to be part of the group! Some say fate others say opportunity, some of us never really know where we are going or how to get there! Nice to have leadership people willing to share their expertise to culminate a positive journey! Fly like and Eagle and soar to new heights!
Thanks Tim. Your comment is so liberating. I have found unexpected team members in the shadows and on the fringes. They are different from me. We expand each other.
Cheers
For sure!
Interesting how many of the ‘teams’ had one member you instantly think of and one or several others that don’t come to mind. Each player had their place and made it work – some visible and some not. This helps me today – thank you!
Thanks Jeff. That’s a great observation. One seems to lead or be more outgoing and one seems to be comfortable more behind the scenes. However, in the case of Henley and Frye, both had great success as solo artists who stood in the spotlight on their own.
You can add Larry Flax and Rick Rosenfeld, co founders of California Pizza Kitchen, to your powerful team list.
Thanks William. I love adding names to the list.
Great observations and a great tribute to Glenn Frey. When I visited the Thomas Edison home in Forty Myers Florida, I was surprised to find how he, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone were good friends. I thought of them as mavericks, but they benefited from each other’s friendship. No man is an island after all. I will reblog your post on my site with a backlink.
Thanks Dan . Being a training manager all given example on team management will help me in shaping my people skills.
From India you forgot to add Ambani brothers.
Team is nothing but understanding of a common dream or goal with firm belief.
Heart to heart ………… Conversation in a nut she’ll.
I like number 5.

Partnership has been my word of the year for two of the last three years. I am making progress. I need to think about who would be a good partner, to take more action on it. Thanks for the inspiration.
