Imagine
Imagine bouncing out of bed anxious for work, not anxious about work.
Imagine you’re fired up, not burned-out.
Imagine clarity replaces confusion.
Imagine the person you plan to fire decides to quit.
Imagine people say thank you when you deliver feedback.
Imagine the pipeline gurgles with talent.
Imagine the pain in your neck turns into your cheerleader.
Imagine employees care as deeply as you care.
Imagine short meetings.
Imagine teams follow through.
Imagine work without paperwork.
Imagine drifting off to sleep with a silly grin on your face.
And now…
Imagine a world where you are irrelevant.
And now…
You don’t have to imagine you matter in this world.
Thank you! What a way to end the week!
Dan
After retiring early I added up my work years and was extremely lucky that for two thirds of the time I met your first items: excited to go to work, focused, etc. For most of those years I was the CFO of companies who needed financial help. I had the three C’s of confidence, commitment and a lot of control.
Later in my career and especially with the much bigger firms I ended with, were not the same. Even though for some of those years I was a CEO of a subsidiary business.
So enjoy the good years and hopefully they help balance out the rest!

One of the great rewards of being a trainer is seeing the results of your work as people grow and develop. I am still in contact with many of those I trained over three decades, and it still lifts my spirits so see the people and leaders they have become, and knowing I made a small contribution to their journey. I’m sure you have similar feelings.
I imagined John Lennon singing in the background as I read today’s post. Quite inspirational. Thanks, Dan.
Dan, I’m with Bill “imagined john Lennon”. Imagine if we lived in a pergfect world? Anyting is possib;le when we believe. Happy Friday Dan!
Thank you for always lifting me up in some way; this was indeed a great way to end the week!
I don’t understand the last few stanzas. Does one want to be irrelevant ?
And now…
Imagine a world where you are irrelevant.
And now…
You don’t have to imagine you matter in this world.
Thanks JK. The point is if we got what we imagined we wanted it would make us irrelevant. But because we will never get a world without problems, we are always relevant.
