Because 11 is easier than 12.
New Year’s resolutions are an exercise in futility for most. 24% give up within seven days. But you don’t have to. 9% keep them for a year.*
This post explains how to achieve your resolutions (Or any reasonable goal).
How to Succeed with New Year’s Resolutions
#1. Name the price of staying the same. Drift is choosing the same future.
#2. Align goals with the person you want to become. How does this action take you where you want to go? Imagine who you become if you succeed?
#3. Think less of your abilities and more about relationships. You go further “with” someone. Who is your accountability partner? Tell your resolution to a friend. Who will perform the same resolution as you?
#4. Aim ridiculously low if you want swift response and immediate action. Everything won’t change tomorrow. Choose the next best thing over perfection. What is the smallest version of success that moves you forward?
#5 Focus on next time. New Year’s resolutions are too long. Don’t expect to do something for a year if you haven’t already done it for a month. Next time I will lower my guard and listen.
#6. Write it down. Put your resolution into clear language.
#7. Remove triggers. If you want to avoid snacks at night, don’t put chips in the cupboard.
#8. Create an action statement. “When______happens, I will_______.” When I skip a workout, I will walk five minutes.
#9. Add a recovery rule. If you fall short two times, call your accountability partner. Tip: Rehearse the conversation before it happens.
#10. Send a weekly progress report to a coach or mentor.
#11. Celebrate success. Lift yourself as aggressively as you beat yourself down. Ask your inner critic for positive suggestions.
