Courage Isn’t a Feeling

Fear doesn’t say, “Be a coward.”

It says, “Be careful.”

You need more information. The timing isn’t right. People might disapprove.

Fear says save yourself.

Courage is action when fear invites retreat.

Courage isn’t feeling brave. It’s answering the call while fear is on the line.

Inspire Courage To Act

One option is a choice. Many options make a dilemma.

I work with leaders in the throes of a dilemma. I asked one leader, “Six months from now, what will you regret not doing?” He saw the path instantly.

The issue becomes courage after you see the path.

How coaches build courage?

Action Before Ability

Take action before you’re competent. You act without ability when you learn to hit a baseball, for example.

The less you do, the less you’re able to do.

When effort drops, tolerance for effort fades.

The more you do, the more you can do.

You learn to lead by leading.
