Maine Wasn’t Vacation Land When We Lived There

Good morning, All,
I want you to know that we’re off to Maine this morning for some time off. We were born and brought up in Central Maine about 20-minutes from Bangor.
The slogan on the license plates says, “Vacation Land.” It wasn’t vacation land when we lived here. Both my wife and I were brought up on farms. But we love going back. It feels like home, even though we don’t want to live there.
We’ll be north of Bar Harbor. The plan is to eat all the sea food we want and enjoy some quiet time. The forecast is bright sun for the whole week and there’s no snow. It’s in the mid-70’s!
I think of you as you face challenges.
You have my best,
Dan

Welcome home!!
We love it there. Spent the night in Sturbridge, MA. Be there tonight.
Enjoy your vacation!
Thanks, Mike.
Enjoy your time off. You deserve some R&R.
Thank you, Brandi. And thanks for being a regular here.
happy Holidays
Thanks, CV.
Good morning, Dan… it is always fun to “go home” even though our lives led us to other places. Enjoy the visit and get your fill!
Yes it is. Thanks, Lisa.
Enjoy and Safe Travel for your vacation. Taking care oneself needs to be a priority. FYI – We miss the area too, we lived in the Brunswick, Bath area in late 80’s and early 90’s. What a peaceful place to live back then.
Yes, beautiful area. Thank you, ST.
Going home and getting well-deserved time away from the everyday activities of life; two of the many great things in life. Good for you!
Life is good, my friend.
Welcome Back…… I worked hard for 20 years to get to live in Maine. I live right on the water in York Maine.

Congratulations! We love getting on the coast. We’re pretty secluded! 🙂
Greetings from Saco. Welcome home and thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Enjoy the break!
I think we just drove past Saco. We stopped in Topsham for gas.
Sounds delightful. Enjoy the rest. Lord willing I’ll have a sabbatical next year. Looking forward to that. Perhaps you might write a post about effective use of sabbaticals and time away….to rest.
Sounds like too much work, Pete! 😉
Congratulations on planning a Sabbatical.
Travelled to Bangor & Brewer every summer from New Brunswick for back to school shopping, always a great time.
Enjoy!
We shopped in Bangor for school shopping, too. New Brunswick is beautiful! We’ve been there. Actually, we been all the way to Fundy Park!
Excellent reminder about HOME. Great insight. I live in Northeast Ohio and work in the healthcare community, came here for my doctorate and stayed here. New Jersey is my home and love going back to the “Jersey Shore” in Ocean City, NJ to join family for vacation. I look forward to it every year but wouldn’t want to go back to NJ to live. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and have a wonderful vacation!
I guess Dorothy was right. There’s no place like home. Thanks for the well wishes, Karen.
Enjoy your well deserved time away, Dan. Rest and restore. Have a wonderful vacation.
Thanks, Robin.
Maine is a beautiful part of our country. My son, a New York Capital Region native, was married atop Cadillac Mountain, a truly beautiful location, but the nine-hour drive from home was not much fun. The only consolation was that the bride’s family was from Long Island, so it could have been worse!
Enjoy your downtime and the seafood.
Thanks, Laurie. Cadillac Mt. is beautiful. Great spot for a wedding. It’s a long drive, no doubt.
You’re never on vacation. You’ll be thinking of new blog posts as you walk the beach and eat your lobster.
Have fun!!
Haha! So true Paul. If only I could remember all the great thoughts I’ve forgotten! Cheers
Hi from Queenstown, New Zealand. I’ll enjoy some more oysters on my break and think of the lobster rolls you’ll no doubt be devouring. Breaks are good for the soul.
Thanks, Kieran. One of my clients used to live in your great country. He lives in Australia now. Lots of cool things in your world.
Thanks for modeling how to take a break! Cheers to you, your wife, and your trip! Enjoy.
Thanks, Lance. And cheers to you too.
Did some growing up in Ellsworth. If you are north of Bar Harbor then you are definitely Downeast. Since you are there after the “season”, stay warm and I hope the time away is refreshing.
Thanks Troy. We prefer North of Bar Harbor. Definitely different world up here.
It’s in the mid 70’s. We hit an amazing week.
My family and I are from Bangor (we had a summer home on Lucerne, just north of Ellsworth, for decades), and my parents live in Frankfort (20 mins south of Bangor). Thanks for sharing your wisdom through your posts, and enjoy your time home!
My pleasure, Gina. It seems there are a few Freak readers who have ties to Maine.
There’s nothing like the wild Maine landscape for a mental and physical reset!
Wave hello to Cushing, Rockland, Rockport and Camden for me as you make your way to Bar Harbor! 🌲🌲🌲
Thanks, Kelly. All beautiful areas for sure. We love our visits here. You’re right. It’s a place of rest for us.
I miss HOME and love going back to visit. Grew up in Fryeburg.
