Let’s get this party started
10 Things you can do to make Monday great
- Make your opportunities; waiting won’t work. You’re the source of your own frustration when you wait rather than work. You’ll find greater satisfaction in life by uncovering ways to earn your “break” rather than waiting for someone to give it to you.
- Dream less, do more, and serve generously. Ask, what am I doing to achieve my dream more than what is my dream.
- Stop being a know-it-all; start asking questions. Stop imagining why “it” won’t work and start imagining why it will.
- Go with the best option.
- Forget short-cuts. Sometimes they happen; usually they don’t.
- Good enough is good enough on low impact items. Stop wasting your time perfecting everything.
- You’ll meet next week’s deadline if you do a little today.
- Don’t wait to be told.
- Rest only when you’re tired.
- Finish something today.
Bonus: Bring joy to someone. The CEO, a director, or your manager are great options.
What “week-starting” tips can you add?
Here’s what I can add: READ THIS ARTICLE and Share it! Thank You, Dan…THIS is a Great read to start your Monday!
Thanks Mike…have a great Monday.
My suggested addition would be to “choose your attitude wisely.” If it’s just another “manic Monday”, then that’s exactly what it’ll be. Choose another attitude, such as “magnificent Monday” instead and look for all the magnificent things that happen!
GAry,
Thanks for your wisdom. Wonderful!
Best,
Dan
11. Be grateful. Give thanks.
Mark,
How could I forget that! Thanks!
Best,
Dan

Totally agree with this… Tom Peters tweeted something last Friday that stuck with me: “Call one client today and thank them for their business.” How simple and great.
Hi Steve,
Simple is great! Thanks for the tip.
Best,
Dan
Great one Dan. 12 – Smile more. Everyone wants to work with someone who reduces the tension in the air!
Thabo,
I needed that!
Best,
Dan
That’s the perfect get things done philosphy. I believe in creating your own luck and DOING stuff rather than planning them. Some planning is still ok of course, but what most leaders do all day long is a lot of bla bla and not enough sweating.
Hi Gabriele,
Lets build the airplane in the air. 😉
Cheers,
Dan
Dear Dan,
I appreciate the idea of ” earn your break”. We usually seek given break and do not try to earn acquired break. The idea is classic and when we either finish or start something. It is also applicable when we are engaged in something. It means our focus and effort to achieve that focus provide us acquired break. When we are not focussed and make effort in diversified directin, then we look for given break. This is my understanding about break.
I think my “week-starting” tips is finish previous week’s pending work before sunday. It helps me to think afresh on monday. This also energizes my effort and I get a feeling of achievement.
Dear Ajay,
Thanks for your comment. Love your tip to finish last week before starting this week. All that baggage can drain us.
Cheers,
Dan

Coupled with Gary’s ‘choose your tude’…have fun. Time will seem to fly and you may even smile. Yes it is hard work, sometimes life/death serious work, however, there are still those moments where you can have fun…and don’t make me bring out the flying monkeys on you!
If you are not having fun, really enjoying what you are doing, time for one of Dan’s earlier posts…two days ago, Maybe You are the Problem!
Thanks Doc… I’m choosing my tude. So simple – so profound.
Best,
Dan

You know, it was so disheartening to me when my 11 year old said yesterday, “Is today Saturday? (yes, he should have known the day of the week but …) when I said no, it’s Sunday, he said, so deflated, DARN that means tomorrow’s Monday (and school). I know he’s not the only 11 year old boy to not want to go to school on Monday but it just seemed so similar to so many of the adults I know (and I do this my share too) who dread Monday morning. So, to follow up (kind of) on your Twitter post from yesterday, I would make my #11 “surround yourself with people who won’t perpetuate the dread-of-Monday/Mondayitis myth.”
Sample comments from my Twitter stream this morning: “Let’s go get it!” (from @thomascholland), “Make it a great leadin to weekend” (from @penguintrax who clearly thinks ahead), “Start out the week strong!” (from @amy_z), “DO IT!!” (from @taldemnalley), “Right there with you. Thanks for charge!” (from @whattonycs) and “Yes! Get After It!” (from @shancola). With positivity like that, who wants to spoil the vibe by whining?
Celebrate an accomplishment from last week to help create your winning attitude.
I’d like to add to: #3: Stop being a know-it-all, start asking questions and stop imagining why “it” won’t work. Start imagining why it will.
My addition: Wake up being a question, not an answer.
If you are an answer, you will have questions. In other words, if you have presumptions, you will wonder “why didn’t this work?” “why me?” “Why not me?” “Why him?” “When, already!”
If you are a question, you will have answers. Wonder what and how, and you will arrive at both.
Great article!
Hi Dan,
Thank you for sharing these points.
Reminds of a point that Seth Godin made, ” Getting your ducks in a row is not nearly as powerful as actually doing somethin w/ your duck!”
Let’s make Monday (and Tues) great.

Always on the spot Dan! Awesome, have a good one. Cheers from Amsterdam (btw. when you are sending over some cool give aways this direction?)
Start the week with a positive attitude.
Yes Dan you are right when you say You’re the source of your own frustration when you wait rather than work. thats true.
I was really in need of this dose. Much thanks Dan.
those ten things are all my weaknesses. I dream a lot but I do less. I always focus on things that would improve me but I don’t exert effort to what I want to obtain. sometimes, I get what I want without putting much effort but oftentimes, I failed. Reading this and their comments make me go awwwww this must be the things I should do daily.. Thank you.. you inspire me 🙂
